St Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church Building Fund

Our new temple is in construction (since July) & scheduled to be complete in late 2009!

"The ... founders, benefactors, and the brotherhood of this holy temple ... may the Lord God remember in His kingdom, always, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages."
From the Divine Liturgy Fr Seraphim holding an artists rendition of our new church!

Become the benefactor of an Orthodox temple!Because of unexpected expenses related to city requirements, we must raise $40,000 by the end of 2009 to complete the project. This is a period of critical need for our parish, and we are trying to find 400 donors who can give us $100 or more. Benefactors will be considered founders of our temple, and will be prayed for at the divine services in perpetuity. We will also be happy to pray for your immediate family (spouse, children) if you send us a list of names. For more information, see our Appeal letter. You can find up-to-date information on our progress on our building project chronology page.

We are an active Russian Orthodox Christian community. Our Sunday services are in English with many hymns repeated in Slavonic. We have outreaches to the community in the form of prison ministry, nursing home visitations, and a full liturgical and teaching schedule. We are the only church in the Metroplex which follows the same calendar used in Russia and regularly includes Slavonic and English in our services and homilies.

Building Fund Progress

We have a two phase building plan.

We plan to build our chapel, with a small hall affixed, for services in late 2009. Building started in July 2009, after a very long approval process. The chapel will look like a "real church", with high ceilings, and two or three cupolas, and it will be our worshipping home as we grow and get ready for phase two. It will be built with later expansion to a full, canonical temple in mind. We will later build a church hall, or possibly purchase a house abutting the land, and convert into a church hall. After the new hall is ready, we plan to enlarge the chapel, and use the entire building as a temple. The final design will be in a cross configuration, and be very roomy, with very high ceilings. The chapel will cost about $221,000 to build (about $130 per sq. ft., with a 120,000 loan at 7%, paid off in ten years).

McKinney Texas is the fastest growing city in Texas, with a current population of over 100,000. City projections are a population of over 300,000 by 2020. We will be the only Orthodox Church in McKinney; the closest sister church, in Plano, will be about 20 minutes away by car (on a good day!).
