Prayer for the Salvation of the Much-suffering Serbian People(Read at the Special Service of Supplication following the Conclusion of the Liturgy)

O Almighty Master, accept our humble prayer for the crucified Serbian race. We know, O Lord, that our martyred sovereign, the holy right-believing passion-bearer Nicholas, while yet on this earth promised never to leave Serbia in distress and bereft of hope. And we know that a new outset of misfortunes began with the assassination of the right-believing Alexander, King of Yugoslavia, and that on the street in Marseilles, which had been bedewed by the blood of this latter restrainer of evil, the righteous archpastor John, who was later to be glorified among the saints, prophetically made supplication for the king, and for children of Serbia, who will weep and suffer tribulation, looking for consolation from Christ. Calling to mind the actions of these three--emperor, king and holy hierarch--who opened their hearts to the people of Russia and Serbia, we also beseech Thee to show great mercy to our Serbian brethren, who are now suffering so greatly, and whose sacred Field of Kosovo, which is like an altar of covenant, those who are persecuting them desire to wrest by force, while pitiless murderers slay the Serbian inhabitants of that region, outrage their women and maidens, and put their children to death. Mindful also of all the good things given us and our fathers, who once fled torture and death at the hands of the godless, and were given refuge by our Serbian brethren in their homeland, we entreat Thee, O Thou Who art all-good: In this transitory life provide them with defense against those who attack them, and in eternal life grant them salvation and everlasting joy, through the supplications of the all-pure Mistress Theotokos, of Saint Savva, the first-installed Archbishop of Serbia, and of all the saints of the Slavs and of the whole world. O Lord, save Thy people, for all things are possible for Thee, and unto Thee, Who alone art omnipotent, we all send up thanksgiving and glory--to the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit-the one God in the Holy Trinity, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

At the dismissal it is appropriate to commemorate all the saints of Russia and Serbia.

Other petitions appropriate for insertion into the litanies of the Divine services for the duration of the hostilities:

Again we pray that God may cause peace and glory to dwell in the land of Serbia, that He may deliver its people and Church from all the assaults of the enemy, and that He not allow those who share our Faith to be trampled underfoot by the adverse foe, but that He put all their audacity to flight, and break their arms, and subdue them beneath the feet of His faithful.

Again we pray that God may fill the faces of the adversary with shame and disgrace and their hearts with fear and terror; and that the Lord send His angel to smite and put them to flight. Again we pray that God may transform into joy and gladness all the tribulation and affliction of those who share our Faith, and change their misfortune into steadfast peace; and that He may ever render them unvanquished by all the assaults of the enemy.
