8 Troparia: all from the Octoechos

  1. The thief on the cross believing Thee to be God confessed Thee earnestly from his heart, crying aloud: O Lord, remember me in Thy Kingdom.
  2. Let us with one accord praise as Saviour and Creator Him Who made life flower for our kind by the wood of the Cross and Who withered the curse coming from the tree.
  3. By Thy death, O Christ, Thou hast destroyed the might of death and hast raised with Thyself those dead from the ages praising Thee as our true God and Saviour.
  4. The holy women having come to Thy tomb, O Christ, sought to anoint Thee, Giver of life, with myrrh and an angel appeared to them crying aloud: The Lord is risen.
  5. Thou hast been crucified, O Christ, between two condemned thieves and one of them blaspheming Thee was rightly sentenced while the other, confessing Thee, went to dwell in Paradise.
  6. The holy women coming to the choir of the apostles lifted their voices crying: Christ is risen. Worship ye Him as Master and Creator.
  7. O Trinity without division One, all creating and almighty, O Father, Son and Holy Spirit, we hymn Thee, the true God and our Saviour.
  8. Hail! living temple of God, and unpassable gate. Hail! throne in the form of fire that is never consumed. Hail! Thou Mother of the Emmanuel Who is Christ our God.

 

Troparion of the Resurrection (Tone 5)

Let us, O faithful, praise and worship the Word / Who is co-unoriginate with the Father and the Spirit, / and Who was born of the Virgin for our salvation; / for He was pleased to ascend the Cross in the flesh / and to en dure death, / and to raise the dead // by His glorious Resurrection.

Troparion for St. Abercius (Tone 4)

The very truth of things reveled thee to thy flock as a rule of faith, a model of meekness and teacher of abstinence. Wherefore, thou didst attain the heights through humility and riches through poverty. O father Abercius , entreat Christ god, that our souls be saved!

Troparion of the Seven Youths (Tone 4)

In their sufferings, O Lord, Thy martyrs received imperishable crowns from Thee, our God; for, possessed of Thy might, they set at nought the tormenters, and crushed the feeble audacity of the demons. By their supplicatio ns save Thou our souls.

Kontakion of the Resurrection (Tone 5)

Unto Hades, O my Saviour, / didst Thou descend, / and having broken its gates as One omnipotent, / Thou, as Creator, / didst raise up the dead together with Thyself. / And Thou didst break the sting of death, / and didst deliver Adam from the curse, / O Lover of mankind. // Wherefore, we all cry unto Thee: Save us, O Lord.

O Protection of Christians (Tone 6) O Protection of Christians that cannot be put to shame, / unchanging Mediation before the Creator / despise not the voice of the sinner's prayer / but in that Thou art good / come quickly to help us who call upon Thee in faith / make speed to intercede and make haste to supplicate / O Theotokos // Who dost ever protect those that honor Thee.

The Prokeimenon in the 5th Tone

Thou, O Lord, shalt keep us and shalt preserve us // from this generation and forevermore. (Ps. 11:7)

Vs/ Save me, O Lord, for a righteous man there is no more. (Ps. 11:1)

And in the 1st Tone My mouth shall speak wisdom, and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.

Epistle: (Galatians 6:11-18; Hebrews 7:26-8:2)

Brethren: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be w ithout chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection u nto the Father of spirits, and live? For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed. See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall no t we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven: Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven. And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.

Brethren: For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his ow n sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself. For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is cons ecrated for evermore. Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.

The Alleluia in the 5th Tone (NO PAUSE before first verse) Of Thy mercies, O Lord will I sing for ever. Unto generation and generation will I declare Thy truth with my mouth. (Ps 88:1,2)

Vs/ For Thou hast said: Mercy shall be built up for ever. In the heavens shall Thy truth be established. (Ps. 88:3)

And in the 2nd Tone The mouth of the righteous shall meditate wisdom and his tonghe shall speak of judgment.

Gospel: (Luke 16:19-31; John 10:9-16)

Jesus said, There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, And desirin g to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man al so died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may di p the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he i s comforted, and thou art tormented. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, nei ther will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

The Lord said: I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have li fe, and that they might have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf comin g, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep. I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am k nown of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

Communion Verse

Praise the Lord from the heavens, praise Him in the highest. (Ps. 148:1)

In everlasting remembrance shall the righteous be; he shall not be afraid of evil tidings.
