Prosphora

In the Russian Church, it is the custom to offer a prosphora (also spelled "prosfora" ) with a list of names of Orthodox Christians to be commemorated in the Liturgy.

Because a particle of bread is removed from the prosfora for each person named, and added to the chalice, only Orthodox Christians can be commemorated in this way.

Please feel free to commemorate Orthodox Christians dear to you by writing their name(s) on the Commemoration sheet, in the appropriate column (Living or Departed). It is also customary to leave a donation when asking the prayers of theChurch. At the end of the Liturgy, the prosphora are returned, at which point you may obtain yours and eat it then, or save it to eat a portion of each morning, when first arising, with the sign of the Cross.
